Parking Wars

A couple of months ago I was in Austin, TX and whenever I go to the downtown areas I always park at the garage at City Hall. When I went it was during the ramp-up South By Southwest (SXSW) so my usually parking spot was full do to the influx of people. I drove around for a bit and, quite luckily, found street parking a block where I need to be. I purchased my parking sticker and placed it in my car, and went to meet friends.

Two Months Later …

I receive a letter in the mail from the City of Austin stating I have a delinquent parking ticket. This came as a shock because I didn’t recall getting a parking ticket, and I was parked legally with a valid parking sticker. I was just going to pay the fine and just be done with it because I didn’t want to deal with the hassle. But I realized that I hadn’t cleaned my car and the ticket might still be in there. I searched and sure enough I found my parking sticker and a flyer that was on my car’s windshield. I sent the City of Austin and email and a photo of my evidence, and a week later the ticket was dismissed. I am glad the odds were in my favor because I would have driven to Austin just on principle if needed.

I recently have been watching marathons of Parking Wars on A&E. I consider myself a good, law-abiding drive I did nothing wrong to warrant a parking ticket. Sometimes it pays to fight.
