Sex and the City: The Trivia Game

I met a group at a friend's house last night to watch Project Runway. During one of the breaks, I randomly asked if anyone was a fan of the show because I have the trivia game at home. Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly consider they were all gay men), they all loved the show and would like to schedule a game night.
[Source: Amazon.com]

My friend SuperBlu from back home sent me the game last March. I haven't had a chance to play because I need a group of people. I had my roommate go through few of the question to see if I could get them right. I think I got 95% of them in great detail. I think that is really good, and a bit sad. I know WAY too much about televison shows and pop culture in general. I don't know how I made through college considering I rarely read any of the assigned readings for courses. For academics, I like to cram because can retain the info better for exams and quizzes but in the long run it might have not been the best idea.

Anyway ...

One friend said they would make Samantha's -- which is drink made with vodka, cranberry juice, and seltzer served in a shot glass -- and I remembered that a similar drink was served in one of the episodes called a Crantini. We agreed to try to schedule a game night, and to try to intimidate them I said that the episode with the Crantini was featured in season 2, episode 4. Honestly I was totally pulling that information out of thin air.

I woke up this morning and I was compelled to find out which episode of the series the drink was featured. I knew it was the episode where Carrie had to shot a cover of magazine and the headline read "Single and Fabulous?" with her looking like a mess. I searched for "crantini" on Televisionwithoutpity.com, but it yeilded no hits. I search through the recaps and lo and behold ... it was from season 2 , episode 4. The drink was actually called a Tartini ... which is actually a drink called a Sea Breeze. I only know that because I read it someplace. I am a non-drinker -- no judgment.

I don't know if I actually knew this information, but if I do they won't stand a chance on Game Night!

Project Runway 3 - Episode 10

Episode 10 - Black and White

Yeah, yeah. I am two weeks late with this but I haven't found the time until now.

The final five designers are ready for the next challenge presented by Heidi. But she leaves them hanging and have them left the runway to meet their guest at a bar/lounge. Kayne was expecting Destiny's Child, eventhough they broke up the months prior.

First surprise guest:
Vincent
...and he receives a smattering of applause.

Second surprise guest:
Angela
...and Michael damn near choked on his drink.

So, one of the twists this season is that if you won a challenge, and you were Auf'd, you would be asked back to compete in a another challenge. Laura was not happy to see Laura back ...

I see Laura's point, because if it wasn't for her and Michael Angela's design would have been covered in rosettes. But they convinced her to make the rosettes as buttons on the jacket.

The challenge: Create a cocktail dress using black and white fabrics.
The twist: all of the fabric must be used.

Winner: Laura, My Fav: Michael, Auf'd: Kayne

Kayne's dress wasn't that bad (from the front), but it was all black and contained no white fabric. He had some white trim...

but that wasn't enough. But I have to say Kayne should have stayed over Jeffrey.

His design was not good at all. But, like have said before, he is only being kept around as the antagonist. I was thinking ...

Did Jeffrey build his neck muscles in order to get this tattoo OR was it already big and he just decided to adorn it?

Just wondering ...

Next week: The final three would be revealed tonight ... OR will the remaining 4 all show at Olympus Fashion Week? Stay tuned!

FYI:

Vincent's model had an accident during taping and he had to use an alternate model for the runway. The show really down played the "accident":

But in reality, THE GIRL GOT HIT BY A BUS!!! She was in critical condition for 3 days, fractured her skull and eye socket, and took her a while to recover. So it was far from a minor accident, as Tim's tone insinuated.

Aftermath of a Tennis Victory

I am still sore after my weekend of tennis. My hamstrings and glutes is where I hurt the most. Oddly enough, my wrist isn't bothering and it is usually the constant source of my aches and pains. But I have to get past the pain because I still have a lot of practicing to do.

First serve is great; my second serve sucks. I couldn't believe the amount of double faults I had during my match. I tried to avoid just tapping the ball back over the line so I tried to put some extra spin on it. Sometimes it worked, most of the time it didn't. This is a major problem when it comes to competitive play. I will spend the next week and a half doing some serving drills.

I going to do this drill I learned from Venus Williams: you practice your serves like you are in a match so if you miss you first serve you go for your second. You keep score and see how many points or games you lose because of your score.

Hopefully by next week I will have a better second serve.

Speaking of a Williams' sister .... HAPPY BIRTHDAY SERENA!!

By the way ... I will not be wearing this for my tournament!

Texas Open Warmup Tournament: Day 2

Well, I got it! By "it", I mean the first place trophy.

You can't see, but the person on my trophy is hermaphrodite.

I won. I WON!!! I can't believe it. I was so scared that I was going to lose this match because I had dream I was going to lose. Screw you images caused by the REM stage in my sleep cycle!

They guy today was really good but he had a flaw in his game. His backhand was horrible. I was told about his flaw yesterday after playing my 2nd round opponent.
To take advantage, I tried to keep all my shots to his backhand. My strategy works because I won 6-4, 6-3.

I feel good about the Texas Open because of the win. I just hope I don't get bounced in the first round.

This is stupid, but after I won I started interally singing SexyBack by Justin Timberlake. But I made it to a tennis relation song. Here is the first verse:

I am bringing SlicesBack.
My stunned opponents don't know how to act.
The underspin cause them to react.
They didn't know I am bring SlicesBack!

I am such a weirdo ...

Texas Open Warmup Tournament: Day 1

I am so tired. I feel that I will start to cramp at any moment so let give you a rundown of the first day.

1st match: 9am

I started awesome. I won the first set 6-1, and I was feeling good about the way I was playing. I had 5 aces and I just knew that the next set would be a piece of cake. I was wrong.

I was up 2-0, and that's where everything fell apart. My serve was broken, crazy shot selections, and just overall bad play. I ended up losing 5-7. I was not happy after losing the second set.

I got pissed at myself and decided just to play big. The 3rd set was a super tiebreaks, meaning the first person with 10 points wins. I ended up winning 10-5, but something funny happened when it was 9-4. I hit a forehand in the corner and I pumped my first and started to celebrate ... then the BALL CAME BACK! I was popping Champale in my mind and ended up losing the point. I won the next point and then celebrated again.

Final score: 6-1, 5-7, (10-5)

2nd match: 1:30pm

While driving home after winning the first match, I stopped by the grocery store to pickup some ingredients to make banana bread. I have overripe bananas in my kitchen so I decided to make some bread to avoid throwing them away.

Finished product ... want a slice?

I went into the store and it was partly cloudy ... I came out and it was a downpour. There was flooding throughout the city. It this was at 11:30am.

At 1:30pm, there was sunny skies and all the streets where bone dry. Dallas has the weirdiest weather.

Anyway...

The 2nd round match was a rematch, of sorts. I played my opponent a couple of months ago in a different tournament (he beat me 6-7, 5-7). So I knew this would be an interesting match. Because of the rain, matches were delayed 45 minutes. I met my opponent we shook hands and acknowledge our past match a couple of months ago. We get on the court, and because of the rain we had to being each set at 2-2. I won the first set 6-4 but I was worried that I would play horribly in the second set. I did ... sort of.

I was up 5-4 with a match point, and I ended up losing that game. I eventually got back in the lead at 6-5 and was up 40-00 with 3 match points. I ended up losing 2 points so it was 40-30. I was able to win the next point when my opponent hit a backhand wide.

Oh, did I mention my opponent was gay. Well, his is. Our last meeting we had a long chat after I noticed he had a towel from a gay tournament in Austin. But he is the type of gay that doesn't like non-straight-acting gay men who aren't into sports. I asked to see if he would joining the Texas Open, and he said

"No because the gay tournaments have too much drama!"

And that was the end of that conversation.

He mentioned that I improved a lot since our last meeting. I guess all of the practicing has paid off.

The final round is tomorrow at 9am and I am kind of nervous. I just need to remember all the things I practiced with my coach.

Update tomrorow ....

Stuff I Need Want: Reebok PUMP Match Day Blue/Navy

I really want these because ... I WANT THEM! I have been looking for these for ages but I couldn't find them in my size. I have 4 other pairs of these (colors: blue/white, black/red, black/white/green, black/grey) but I don't have these. The model has been discontinued and they are getting harder to find. I think I may have to stock up on them so I can have them in the future. If the price ever hits $29.99, I am getting at least 5 pairs and storing them away.

They shall be mine for the tournament I am going to in Houston in November.

Which Would You Eat

I saw a commericial for Arby's yesterday and remember having the worst sandwhich there 20 years. Since that point the thought of eating at Arby's makes a bit sick. I asked myself:

If a gun was to my head and I was forced to eat an Arby's sandwhich OR my feces, which would I choose?

I think I would eat the sandwhich after weighing the pros and cons of both. Yeah Arby's is food, but my feces will taste the way I would expect it ... like crap. But the thought of eating my crap over the crap they serve at Arby's would be a bit unsettling.

Is this a weird subject to think about?

Janet's Design-Me Cover Winners

Please let this be a joke.

I've seen better covers than this during the competition, so I am not sure if these are the official winners.

The Amazing Race 10: Celebrating Diversity

This past Sunday was the premier of the Amazing Race season 10. This season, there is a wide array of diversity. Along with ethnic diversity, there just seem to be different types of people.

Former drug addicts now models

Followers of Islam

Dad with lesbian daughter

A woman with a prosthetic leg and her boyfriend that makes prosthetic legs

Black single mothers

The only thing that is missing this year is the token old couple. Even though I rooted for the older couples, they rarely made it far in the race so I guess they had to go. But we have some of our returning group members:

Faggy gays

Cheerleaders

Something totally new for the series ... Asians!

Korean-American brothers

Indian-American married couple (South Asian)

The first-place winners of this leg of the race was Team Heroin Chic. And with that the 1st place finish, they got $20,000.

That money can buy them a lot of smack! Or headshots for the "modeling" careers.

Unfortunately, Vipul and Arti had to go at the end of the show in a surprising double elimination. I really like them because they seemed really nice (in general and to one another).

Favorite quotes:

Team Airhead

We both have the personalty that we could have a conversation with a door knob. TeeHee!

Burnette: "Do Muslims believe in Buddha?"
Blonde: "I don't know!?!?"

Team Baby Momma's

Commenting on the Sarah using her disability to get on the plane before everyone else ...

Team Fag-tabulous
My knees are bloody!

A gay man with bloody knees. CBS was totally in on this joke.

Crush Groove: Rx (part deux)

Continuation of previous posts found here and here.

I finally got a response to my email and it was good and bad news. The good news was that he felt similarly to me; the bad news was that he is taking a break from dating for a while to concentrate on himself, since he has been in relationships all his life. I understand his position, but I am not sure how we'll interact with one another from this point further.

Will there be an undercurrent of flirtation (consciously or otherwise) during our friendly conversations? I have no intensions of actively pursue him but at least he knows the option is available to him.

I might see him tomorrow at tennis and see how things go. I am hoping that thing won't be weird and awkward, but I get the feeling that things will no longer be the same.

Stuff I Need Want: TiVo Series 3 HD

I really need want the new TiVo Series 3 HD. I was on my couch watching tv with my laptop -- sick day -- and I saw on Gizmodo that TiVo is now selling the new HD device. But is isn't cheap. With a price tag of $800, I will have to think hard before I purchase it.

[source: Gizmondo.com]

I am thinking about retiring my 40 hour Series 2 TiVo that I got almost 3 years ago and add it to the Series 2 DT TiVo I got a couple of months ago. Maybe I will donate it to someone I know ... any takers.

Project Runway 3 - Episode 9

Episode 9 – Couture Du Jour

We rejoin the designers in Paris after Angela was sent out on her rosette loving (and covered) butt. FYI ... Jean-Paul Gaultier was indeed the original guest judge in Paris, but his schedule didn't allow him to appear. This is according to Tim Gunn's ep8 podcast.

Winner: Jeffrey (first person win 2nd challenge with immunity), Auf’d: Vincent

I didn’t really love this challenge because it didn’t really allow to them to be creative because of the time constraints. If they would have had two days for the challenge, then I feel that we could have more couture type designs.

Randomness:

I love that Michael and Laura are friends and help each other out.

Ebony and Ivory, yall.

I think Laura is wearing a fake pregnant belly.

Tim tries not to catch crazy from Vincent has he slinks away.

Oh. No. He. Didn’t!

That garcon is about to catch a beat down.

Kayne est Stupide!

Laura’s collar needs some Cialis to get it stiff again.

You know, I have made fun of Vincent but he really didn’t deserve that crappy sendoff. There was some creative editing to make him seem like a pervert. He could well be, but he probably didn’t want to convey that in his exit interview.

"I did cash in my 401k and quit a job to be here. To let me roll the dice ... I like taking chances and I am sorry that I did. So thankful to Project Runway. It put me in a nice place, you know. I was just such a beautiul thing ..."

[Clearly from some other interview judging by the hair] "... it just got me off. I loved it!"

Next week: Laura is pissed, and she is not going to take it anymore.

I'm Shitting Myself

Sorry for the use of profanity, but it is the only way I could express myself at this moment. I ended up sending a email to Dr. Rx with full disclosure and I am just waiting for his reply.

Feeling emboldened by previous post I typed away an email explaining everything. I know it is kind of lame that I didn't do this face to face but luckily for me the Internet has allowed the meek to be brave while hiding behind the protection of 1s and 0s.

Thank you binary digits!

B'day Weekend Hangover

There was tennis, a birthday, a party, a divorce, and Dr. Rx.

My weekend was so full that I was only home for about 5 hours collectively (other than sleeping) and I am feeling the after effects of my busy weekend. As a result, my PR recap was not completed. There will be an abbreviated version posted late tonight or tomorrow morning.

My birthday was pretty uneventful, which is what I wanted. Thanks to my friends and family who called and emailed me their birthday wishes. I didn't tell any of the people I met in Dallas that it was my birthday because I didn't want a big brouhaha. So I kept it to myself.

Saturday - I played tennis for 4 hours, went to lunch with a couple I know. We end going to watch the US Open Women's final at another couple's house where 2 more couples showed up ... leaving me as the only uncoupled person. Sharapova won, dropped part of the trophy on her head, and got called out on her cheating. BOO! I wanted Justine Henin-Hardenne to win.

Sunday - Played tennis from 9am to 12pm, went to lunch at a new restuarant called the Twisted Root Burger Company in Deep Ellum. It was a really cool place. When you place an order you get a card with movie/tv/cartoon characters so you can be notified that your order is ready. I got Dr. Evil ... but I really wanted Shaft or Foxy Brown. After lunch I head home to get ready for US Open Men's Final (Federer vs. Roddick). This is where things got interesting ...

I was on my the floor stretching while watch (what I assumed to be) the Miss Mexico City pageant on Univision. I don't know what the hell as going on but it looked interesting. I got a call from Dr. Rx, which I found odd because just had lunch with him. When I answered it sounded like he put on his "sexy" voice to say hello. He wanted to see if I would be joining the Oaklawn Bowling League which started this week. I told him that I would probably join in December when the tennis season is over. We had a brief conversation before I invited him over to watch the US Open Finals. He agreed, and I began the furious task of cleaning my apartment. Two hours later ... no word from Dr. Rx. I gave him a call to asked if he was still coming but he wasn't because was still out running errands. He hadn't even been home to shower or to let his dogs out, so he won't be able to make it. That sucked! That was suppose to be my opportunity to pounce on him, figuratively, because I would never be able to get him alone. I may just have to be lame and send an email explaining the situation.

So, that was my weekend ... how was yours?

My B'Day

Since today is my 27th birthday I will be taking this day off from blogging. But I will be back tomorrow with my Project Runway Recap.

If you like, you can leave a comment with your well wishes, or just to say:

Haaaaaaay!

Bobby and Whitney were unavailable this year. Pink and I share the birthday and year, but I am no longer returning her phone calls.

Music of the Month: September 2006

In my effort to give back to the music industry, from whom I have "borrowed" music from for the past 10 years, I am going myself a budget of $30/month to purchase new or used CDs. Past purchases: All of Bjork's albums (Debut, Post, Homogenic, Vespertine, Medulla), Sunshine Anderson, and Brandy (Full Moon, Afrodiasic).

So this month's purchases are:

Janet - 20 Y.O. (Deluxe Edition)

Of course, I have to get this. I would a crime if I didn't buy this album. Even though the first two singles were not my cup of tea, I am loving "Enjoy". I hope there are more tracks like that on the album.

Beyonce - B'Day

I have been listening to this album for the past couple of weeks, and I really like it. I liked "Deja Vu" a lot but I kept reading that it was "Crazy In Love (Part II)". Was it because the collaborated with Jay-Z or because both songs used horns? I don't get the comparison. With that said, "Deja Vu" doesn't really fit too well with the hard sound of album ... it is too slick, production-wise. My favorite tracks: "Upgrade U", "Suga Mama", and "Kitty Kat".

En Vogue - Born To Sing

"Hold On" is one of those songs that I will always remember. The accapela intro, the video of the ladies wearing black mini dress, the tight harmonies ... this is what a girl group should be. I think En Vogue was the last great R&B girl group.

So these are my selections for this month. Stay tuned for October's selections!

My Long Vacation

I am back after a long vacation away from my computer. I have been camping out on my couch the entire holiday weekend watching the US Open. Serena lost to Amelie Mauresmo in 3 sets, but she played well considering this is her second(?) tournament back since the Australian Open in January. If she can stay healthy she could be a contender for another slam.

Besides watching tennis I have been on the courts preparing for my tournament in October. I still have a few kinks I have to work out in my serve and backhand but my forehand become my weapon. I have a warm-up tournament on September 23 ... which is the same tournament I won the consolation trophy last year.

So don't panic ... I am back.

MTV VMAs

It is official, I am too old for MTV. I ended up watching the entire VMAs in 30 minutes (thanks TiVo). I saw the performances by Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, and Christina Aguilera ... and they were just okay. Beyonce was totally apart of the Rhythm Nation (1814), and I was just waiting for Christina for rip off her her long red dress in anticipation of a medley of her new single "Hurt" and "Ain't No Other Man". But she didn't ... but she looked good.

In my 26 years, 358 days, 8 hours, and 40 minutes of life ... I am just too old for this show and the channel. I didn't know most of the people who appeared. I think next year I will just watch clips of the show on YouTube.
